Parent Advisory Council
Are you looking for a way to be involved as a parent and contribute to the University of Maryland community? The Parent Advisory Council may be the answer!
The Parent Advisory Council is made up of parents of current undergraduate students who are also members of the Maryland Parents Association. Currently, the Council consists of 12 families representing a diverse spectrum of students' degree programs and years. Membership is comprised of a National Chair or Chairs, committee chairs for Fundraising and Development, Special Events, Awards and Recognition, Silent Auction, and Communication, and Members-at-Large. The Parent Advisory Council is appointed by the Vice President for Student Affairs, in consultation with the Director of Parent and Family Affairs, and all members are appointed to serve a two-year term.
Parent Advisory Council members support special Maryland Parents Association funds with personal gifts and sponsor programs to encourage other families to make gifts in support of the University. Contributions made to the Parents Association directly impact the lives of students and enhance their academic and co-curricular experience at Maryland. The Parent Advisory Council distributes funds through the Parents Association Initiative Fund grant program and the Parents Association Scholarship Award program. Past recipients of Initiative Fund grants include the First Fridays Late Night Series sponsored by the Office of Campus Programs, the Roommate Finder Marketing Campaign sponsored by Off-Campus Housing Services, the Victim Assistance Fund provided by University Health Services, and the Overnight Stay Program and Arrival Survival Team sponsored by the Department of Resident Life.
